Two Quiet Days for Experiencing Lay Discernment

"Discernment" is the name for the process of striving to determine more clearly what God is saying in a particular situation, or what God's desire is for a person or a group. It is something all Christians, lay and ordained, young and old, are called to do throughout our lives.

"Discernment" is not just for people who wonder if they are called to ordination. That is a relatively rare and specific discernment issue that involves a much more extensive process than the discernment all of us do at various points in our lives.

There are some approaches and spiritual perspectives that generations of believers have found particularly helpful when grappling with questions about God's will — when discerning something. And discernment is often best done in community with other Christians.

These Quiet Days will introduce prayerful approaches to discerning God's will individually and in community. They also will include a look at an upcoming training program for anyone who wishes to explore the practice of communal discernment more deeply.
