TRINITY INSTITUTE HAS FORMAT CHANGE: Program in New York City Only
SO PROVINCE I is offering GRANTS to send TWO PEOPLE PER DIOCESE to NYC Feb 8-9, 2019!
The cost of registration and one night housing for this year's TRINITY INSTITUTE: FACING RACE THROUGH FILM is $200. Province I will cover this cost for two people from each diocese who pledge to bring their experience and use the recorded Trinity Institute resources to replicate the program in their home context. Participants will need to cover their cost of transportation to NYC and meals.
The weekend events at St. Paul Chapel (Broadway and Fulton Street) includes a full day of talks, panels, and reflection groups exploring how the primary narrative medium of our time can inform and nurture preaching, action, and formation. Trinity will record the panel presentations and make all material available AFTER the live event in New York City for parishes and dioceses to use.
Melissa Harris-Perry is the conference’s keynote speaker. She holds the Maya Angelou Presidential Chair at Wake Forest University and is founding director of the Anna Julia Cooper Center and Wake the Vote. She is an award-winning author and sought-after public speaker.
The Rev. Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas (dean of Episcopal Divinity School at Union Seminary), theologian and author, Dr. Greg Garrett (Baylor & Seminary of the Southwest), and Dr. Catherine Meeks (Executive Director of the Absalom Jones Center for Racial Healing) are also collaborators and speakers offering an exploration of race through film during Black History Month.
Two Films will be screened:
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the release of the landmark film Do the Right Thing by Spike Lee. It continues to raise powerful questions. In a complex world it can be hard to know what the right thing is, and harder still to have the courage to do it. Do the Right Thing will be shown Friday, 6-9pm.
Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casals's Blindspotting will be shown Saturday, 6:15-9 pm is a critically acclaimed film featuring a story about friendship and the intersection of race and class set against the backdrop of rapidly gentrifying Oakland. Registered attendees are invited to a reception that pprecedes the film at 5:15pm.
