Hope, Healing, Allelluia: 2018 Festival of the Resurrection
Music, drama, dance and prayers will highlight “Hope, Healing & Hallelujah!,” a week-long Festival of the Resurrection at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pawtucket.
The 2018 Festival of the Resurrection takes place from Sunday, April 22, through Sunday, April 29, as an opportunity for Rhode Islanders to continue joyously celebrating Easter long after the traditional festive worship services on Easter Day (Sunday, April 1).
“The season of Easter, which lasts 50 days, is the time the Church gives continuous thanks for God’s unfailing love and mercy” said The Rev. Greta Getlein, Vicar of St. Paul’s. “As part of our celebrations, we must consider how we share the gifts given us, how we engage with our communities, and how we participate in the important conversations of our day. This festival is an opportunity for St. Paul’s to do all of those things in partnership with this city.”
Each day of the festival features a special event, starting with “Bach, Buxtehude and Beyond,” an organ recital at 3 p.m. on April 22. The festival concludes with “For God Has Done Marvelous Things,” an artistic tapestry of poetry, dance, readings, prayer, choir and organ around the great hymns of Easter.
All events are free and open to the public – registration is encouraged on Eventbrite. The play and panel discussion of the opioid epidemic, has a suggested donation of a non-perishable food item to support the St. Paul’s Food Pantry. The others will collect free-will offerings to support the Festival and ministries of St. Paul’s.
Sunday, April 22 “Bach, Buxtehude and Beyond”
3:00 pm A son of St. Paul’s parish, Adam Schneider, returns to present an organ recitalof some of the master organ works by numerous composers on St. Paul’s Austin Organ. Festive reception to follow. *A free will offering will be taken to support the ministries of this church.
Monday, April 23 “Dynamite Rhythm”
7:00 pm Enjoy an evening of music, dance and a few laughs presented by one of Rhode Island’s hottest and funnest groups with music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. *A free-will offering will be taken to support the St. Paul’s Homeless Shelter. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for sale.
Tuesday, April 24 “Four Legs to Stand On”
7:00 pm Presented by COAAST (Creative Outreach About Addiction Support Together) A 35-minute play, followed by a panel discussion on the topic of the opioid epidemic. *Suggested donation: a non-perishable food item to support the St. Paul’s Food Pantry.
Wednesday, April 25 “Spiritual Fitness”
7:00 pm A workshop on Tai Chi and meditation helps to develop mental, physical and spiritual wellness presented by the Re-Entry Wellness Center of Rhode Island. This will be followed by a Mass for Healing.
Thursday, April 26 “Art of Befriending Seniors”
6:30 pm A conversation on the art of befriending seniors by Herb Weiss, the author of Taking Charge, Collected Stories on Aging Boldly, presented in conjunction with The Samaritans of Rhode Island. Book signing to follow. *A free will collection will be taken to support the work of Samaritans.
Friday, April 27 “Mark’s Gospel LIVE”
7:00 pm A solo dramatic performance of the Gospel of Mark as presented byThe Rev. Joseph Morris who has thrilled over 500 audiences throughout the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. *A free-will offering will be taken to support the work of Fr. Morris.
Saturday, April 28 “Death and Rebirth in Music: Symbolism and Beauty of the Great Requiems”
6:30 pm Learn about the history and composition of the Requiem Mass and how musical composers through the ages have interpreted it through their works. Presented by Timothy Anderson, Adjunct Professor of Music, CCRI
Sunday, April 29 “For God Has Done Marvelous Things”
3:00 pm An artistic tapestry of poetry, dance, readings, prayer, choir and organ around the great hymns of Easter. Featuring the musicians of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and the Metamorphosis Dance Company. *A free-will offering will be taken to support the ministry of the church. Festive reception to follow.
